special-olympicesMANSFIELD IS LOOKING FOR NEW COACHES FOR SPECIAL OLYMPIC SOCCER!! 


Special Olympics Massachusetts provides year-round athletic training and competition for individuals with intellectual disabilities. The training requires dedicated volunteer adult and teen coaches who can work with one or more athletes on a regular basis. 

There’s no need to worry if you have experience coaching or not, because Special Olympics Massachusetts needs you. you bring the enthusiasm and some knowledge and SOMA will provide the training you need to be a successful coach. When you become a coach,you will find the rewards go far beyond the finish line.You will help athletes discover their physical skills,their self-worth, their courage and their capacity to grow.

The Mansfield Special Olympics program has been running strong in the town of Mansfield for many years! We are very proud of our athletes. in this time we have watched them grow and develop their skills in Soccer and basketball as they work together with their peers. (Unified Partners) on and off the field/court! The age requirement for becoming a head coach with Special Olympics is 18 and 16 for an assistant coach. Just like any other sports organization, coaches are responsible for helping with all aspects of the team,including:

  • Attending pre-season coaches meetings.
  • Assisting with recruiting athletes, partners, and additional volunteers.
  • Maintaining athlete records and registrations.
  • Developing an 8-10 week practice schedule for the season.
  • Conducting well organized practices.
  • Attending sectional and state-level competitions with your team.

Being a Special Olympics coach is one of the most important and rewarding volunteer roles in our organization. That is why 8,000 men and women in Massachusetts choose to share their time and talent with SOMA athletes.
