Mansfield Public Schools Professional Development

The Mansfield Public Schools believes that staff members should be provided with instructional development opportunities, which are consistent with our mission statement, our system wide goals, The Massachusetts Curriculum Frameworks, and The Massachusetts Comprehensive Assessment (MCAS) Tests. Fostering the professional growth of school personnel and expanding their repertoire of instructional strategies will promote a more effective learning environment to enable all students to reach their full potential.

Our professional development program contains a variety of opportunities for our educators to acquire content knowledge and understanding, to develop skills for the classroom and beyond, and to improve pedagogy.  Through the in-service courses, on-line courses, after school, conferences and workshops, grade level sessions, and departmental meetings, we are implementing the goals set by our long range learning plan.

 Summer Institutes provide a practical and convenient means of addressing  ongoing professional development. Their purpose is to support the continual development of Curriculum & Instruction and should enhance the district's goals and/or your individual school's improvement plan.


1. A new feature has been added to SMART PD which will allow you to have access to view your classlist, print an attendance sheet for your class(es) and also take attendance online which will complete the PDP assignments. This will help facilitate the process of payment and ensure PDPs are awarded to registrants in a timely manner.  Please refer to the email sent on 6/21/19 for more detailed information.

2. Please be sure everyone registers on SMART PD for your summer institute (you must register as well). Hint: Do NOT use Google Chrome when logging into SMART PD - it is not compatible.

3. Upon completion of your Summer Institute, submit the signed and completed Attendance sheet and summary of work completed for Mike's review to Dyana Bogdan at Central Office ASAP.

District Offerings on SMART PD

  • To add a Professional Development Offering to SMART PD, please fill out BOTH forms below.  If you are not adding the PD to SMART PD, please only fill out the PDP Request Form.
  • All requests for SMART PD should be send PRIOR to PD offering. 2-4 weeks is preferred.
  • Send form(s) to Central Office (via scan/email or interoffice) Attn: Dyana Bogdan for approval by Assistant Superintendent.
  • Please give Central Office 2-4 days to get on SMARTPD once approved.
  • Staff/attendees MUST register themselves prior to closing date so they can receive their PDP’s.
  • Submit a sign in sheet with the hours of each individual in attendance to Central Office (attn: Dyana Bogdan) after the PD offering for certification of PDP's.

Educational Conference Approval Instructions

  • Please do not register or pay for any conference before you are approved by Mr. Connolly.
  • Attach all information regarding the conference to the form (link below) and submit to your building principal for initial approval.
  • Once approved by your principal, send it to Central office (attn: Dyana Bogdan).  All conference requests must be approved by Central Office regardless of whether there is a cost.
  • Allow at least 1 week before the conference registration deadline date for paperwork to be approved. Once approved, you will be notified. 

Registration Details:

  • If there is a registration fee and they accept Purchase Orders, Central Office will register you, and take care of the payment.  
  • If there is no cost OR they do NOT accept Purchase orders, you will register yourself. 

You will receive an email from Dyana once approved regarding next steps.


Educational Conference Reimbursement Instructions:

  • Submit proof that you attended the conference so the invoice can be paidSend ONE of the following to Central Office, Attn: Dyana Bogdan (scan/email or interoffice):
  1. Certificate of Attendance (preferred)  OR

  2. A copy of your Badge    OR

  3. A Printed Agenda given to you at the conference (a downloaded agenda is not accepted)
