Class of 2010 Awards:

 

U.S. Marine Corps Award- Scholastic Excellence: (presented by Sgt. Victor Markiewicz)

The United States Marine Corps Awards for Scholastic Excellence are given to two seniors that have demonstrated academic achievement and leadership by being a role model for other students.

This year’s winners are: Kristen Spillane & Robert Snyder

 

U.S. Marine Corps Semper Fidelis Award for Musical Excellence: (presented by Sgt. Victor Markiewicz)

The United States Marine Corps Semper Fidelis Awards for Musical Excellence are given to two seniors with first chair positions in band, are capable of performing as a soloist and are recognized as both outstanding performers and as young citizens.

This year’s winners are: Sarah Joncas & Adam Greenberg

 

U.S. Marine Corps Distinguished Athlete Awards: (presented by Sgt. Victor Markiewicz)

The United States Marine Corps Distinguished Athlete Awards are given to two senior athletes who are exemplary young citizens, role models for other students and best exhibit the personal traits of courage, poise, self-confidence and leadership.

This year’s winners are: Jessica Eason & Matthew Zonghetti

 

U.S. Air Force Award – Math & Science:

The United States Air Force Award for Math & Science is awarded to the senior with the highest grade point average in both math and science.

This year’s winner is: Christopher Fredrickson

 

U.S. Army Reserve National Scholar/Athlete Awards: (presented by Sgt. Steven Thibodeau)

The United States Army Reserve National Scholar/Athlete Awards are given to two seniors who have demonstrated excellence in both academics and athletics.

This year’s winners are: Jennifer Giffels & Christopher Fredrickson

 

Mass. Secondary School Admin. Assoc. -Student Achievement Award:

This year’s winner is: Brian Bulis

 

Mass. Association of School Superintendents Awards:

This year’s winners are: Chelsea Amaral

 

Principal’s Leadership Award:

The Principal’s Leadership Awards are sponsored by the National Association of Secondary School Principals and given for outstanding student leadership.

This year’s recipient is: Kristen Spillane  

 

Principal’s Awards (Scholar/Athlete):

The Principal’s Award (Scholar/Athlete) is given to the two Mansfield students nominated by the editors of the Boston Globe for their Scholar/Athlete Awards. The editors select student athletes from the six MIAA districts for academic excellence and sportsmanship. The selected athletes are then nominated for the Richard Phelps Scholar/Athlete Award.

This year’s winners are: Gianina Monestime & Brendan Boyle

Prudential Spirit:

The Prudential Spirit of Community Award Certificate of Merit was awarded to a member of our senior class in recognition for their exemplary commitment to community service. This individual has demonstrated outstanding commitment to serving our community and is hereby recognized as one of the top student volunteers here at Mansfield High School. It is with great pleasure that I bestow The Prudential Spirit of Community Award Certificate of Merit to Brendan Ryan.

 

Procter & Gamble Fund Program:

The Procter & Gamble Fund Program awards college scholarships to outstanding students who are children of Procter & Gamble employees. Only 183 students worldwide were awarded scholarships this year. Students who are chosen for this award have outstanding leadership qualities and an impressive academic record.

This one time scholarship of $2500 was awarded to: Anna Dominesey

 

D.A.R. Good Citizenship Award:

The Massachusetts Daughters of the American Revolution Award is given to a senior who exemplifies qualities of dependability, service, leadership, and patriotism in their school, home and community. Nominated by the faculty and chosen by his classmates:

This year’s winner is: Matthew Zonghetti

 

Bronze Medal for the Spanish National Exam:

The Bronze Medal for the Spanish National Exam is given to students who finish in the top 85th percentile of 125,915 participants.

This year’s recipient is: Sangeetha Kavety

 

Bronze Medals for the National French Contest;

The Bronze Medal for the National French Contest is given to students who finish in the top 85th to 90th percentile. Over 100,000 students participated in the exam.

This year’s recipients are: scoring in the 85th percentile, Joanna Rothchild and scoring in the 90th percentile, Gianina Monestime

 

Amer. Assoc. of Teachers of French Award:

The American Association of Teachers of French each year identifies graduating seniors who have demonstrated excellence in the study of French as well as exceptional commitment to the French language. Recipients must have completed at least three years of French study and be a non-native speaker.

This year’s winner is: Joanna Rothchild

 

Flag Awards:

The 29th annual Mansfield High School Flag award will be presented today to the senior boy and senior girl who, through their conduct and attitude, exemplify those qualities of American youth which are the best guarantee for the survival and success of the democratic principles upon which this nation was founded.  These qualities include: honesty, involvement in school and community, acceptance of all races and ethnic groups, and a willingness to help those less fortunate.  Students nominate each other, and then the faculty selects the award winners by a vote. 

This year’s winners are: Jessica Eason & Brendan Roche

 

Boston Globe 2010 Scholastic Art Awards:

The Boston Globe holds an annual state wide art competition in January. The Following students entered their works and were awarded the noted honors, reflecting their position as part of the top 1% of all art students.

This year’s winners are:

Presidential Academic Fitness Awards:
The Presidential Academic Fitness Award recognizes academic success in the classroom and school. To be eligible, the student must have earned an academic grade average of 90 or better, and have scored in the 85th percentile or higher on a national standardized test, such as the PSAT, SAT, ACT or an Advanced Placement Exam.

National Hispanic Recognition Program Scholar:
The College Board has given recognition to a graduating senior who took the 2008 PSAT/NMSQT/PAA and identified themselves as Hispanic/Latino. This student was among 5,000 students out of 200,000 who were recognized for maintaining a GPA of 3.5 or higher and met the minimum regional score.
